Prof. Daud Kassam

He holds a Ph.D in Fisheries Ecology (obtained in 2004) and Master of Science degree in Aquaculture which he obtained in 2001, both degrees obtained in Japan.

He holds a Ph.D in Fisheries Ecology (obtained in 2004) and Master of Science degree in Aquaculture which he obtained in 2001, both degrees obtained in Japan. Due to his excellent publication record, he was awarded a Post Doctoral Fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), which he did up to March 2006.

Currently he is working as Associate Professor at LUANAR, Bunda Campus in the Aquaculture and Fisheries Science Department, where apart from lecturing, he is supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He also served as head of department from 2009-2012, and during his tenure it’s when the department started offering PhD program, which he was able to handle.

He is involved in research on Fish Biodiversity and Conservation, Fish Biotechnology as well as Fish Breeding. On Fish Biodiversity studies, he was coPI in the project funded by NEPAD through BioFisa Project where species diversity in rivers of Southern Africa were unraveled. He is also currently an implementer in the Malawi Pilot Development Project: Accelerating agricultural technology transfer from China (2014-2016) where he is involved in the breeding of Tilapia species. He won TWAS Young Scientist Award in 2008.
