Training and Out Reach


The Centre for Agricultural Research and Development (CARD) is a research and training institution under Bunda College of Agriculture which is a constituent college of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resouces. CARD an umbrella body under which are two units namely the Agricultural Policy Research Unit (APRU) and the Agricultural Policy Analysis Training Unit (APATU).

Through these units the Center undertakes policy related research and training in a number of areas within the agriculture and natural resource sectors. Areas of focus in terms of research and training include agricultural trade and marketing, natural resources and environment, food security and nutrition.

The two Units are housed within the same complex and share common facilities such as a conference room, computer laboratories, internet facilities, a documentation unit and a 30-bed hostel with well-furnished laundry, kitchen restaurant and bar for hosting national and international workshops and training courses.

Training


The centre has, over the years conducted training in numerous subject areas at national, regional, and international levels. The following are the courses that have been conducted by the unit.

  1. Human and Social Perspectives in Environment and Natural Resources Management (in collaboration with the International Conservation Union)
  2. Land Tenure and Common Property
  3. Resource Economics and Valuation (in collaboration with IDA - World Bank)
  4. Technology Adoption and Rural Transformation
  5. Food Security Data Analysis Training (in collaboration with SADC)
  6. Participatory Tools and Methodologies
  7. Quantitative Policy Analysis Training (in collaboration with IFPRI)
  8. Trade Liberalisation and Macroeconomic Policy Analysis (in collaboration with IFPRI)
  9. Project Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation
  10. Agribusiness Management
  11. Various computer applications training (with other collaborating institutions)
  12. Wetland Utilization and Management in collaboration with SADC and European Union

BUNDA CARD LODGE


This centre has a lodge called Bunda CARD Lodge which provides Restaurant, Accommodation, Conference room, Computer room with internet facilities, and documentation unit. It has quiet retreat settings on reasonable rates. It accommodates 30 people. In each room there is a TV set.

The rooms are very quiet, spacious and accommodative with DSTV and continental breakfast.

The centre has got a conference room which caters upto 150 people. It provides free flip chart stand. We also have an LCD projector at a reasonable price.
