Dr Jones signing in the visitors book as Prof. Kanyama Phiri looks on
The Chancellor of Illinois University of the United States of America, Dr. Robert Jones, who visited LUANAR’s Bunda Campus and NRC Campus on Thursday, 1st March and Friday, 2nd March 2018 respectively, has called for a reciprocal partnership between these two universities
Speaking on Thursday at Bunda Campus, Dr. Jones said the mutual partnership would see both universities making progress in teaching, research and outreach.
Dr. Jones said it is high time that the two universities engage in a reciprocal partnership where they can have staff exchange programmes to build capacities in the two universities and advance their research.
“We need reciprocal partnerships where we can be part of a team to solve complex challenges because we believe that most of our problems we face in the world today in nutrition and food security, for example, are too large and too complex for one entity to solve them. It is only through respectful mutually beneficial partnerships that we will have a hope of advancing solutions to these problems.” Dr. Jones added.
He further hailed LUANAR for making strides in educating the masses in order to drive the economy of the country and achieve food security, saying Illinois University and LUANAR have a lot in common in terms of their visions of becoming world class universities.
In his remarks, LUANAR Vice Chancellor, Professor George Kanyama Phiri thanked Dr. Jones for taking his time to visit LUANAR.
Professor Phiri concurred with Dr. Jones on the need for reciprocal partnership and hoped that the two institutions of higher education will engage in a mutual collaboration.
During his excursion under the Feed the Future initiative by USAID, Dr. Jones visited the Africa Centre of Excellence in Aquaculture and Fisheries (ACE-Aquafish) based at LUANAR Bunda campus and also the Soy Bean Food Processing Lab at NRC campus.
