Mkulama: to participate in the YALI Regional Leadership Center cohort 16
A student at the Department of Environmental Sciences and Management of the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) Bunda Campus has been selected to participate in the YALI Regional Leadership Center cohort 16. Abel Mkulama, who is in his final year of study of a Bsc. in Natural Resources Management in Land and Water, is among the few selected individuals from southern Africa to participate in YALI entrepreneurship track.

Young Africa Leaders Initiative is funded by USAID and was commissioned under former USA president Barrack Obama’s administration. YALI participants undergo training in three tracks, namely; entrepreneurship, public management and civic leadership. The aim is to raise young and transformative leaders that will chatter a new course for Africa in the track that aligns most closely with their current or future career, vocational achievements or aspirations.

The YALI RLC will be held at the University of South Africa’s School of Business Leadership in Midlands South Africa from 5th to 28th November, 2018. Abel is expected to leave for the programme through Kamuzu International Airport on 2nd November, 2018.

Citing his expectation, Abel said that his dream is to build successful business enterprise for growing Africa’s GDP which at the moment is embarrassingly low. “The training in entrepreneurship will prepare me for large corporate investments that will benefit all of us,” said Mkulama. “I know that I have great potential and influence and I want to use that to contribute to the new Africa that is being built and lead together with several other passionate young Africans, the realization of the African dream from third world to first,” he added.

Abel called upon all young Africans, particularly Malawian youths, to invest in education, he encouraged them to start reading and perfecting themselves in the field that they love even if it means self-learning.

Asked where his inspiration came from, he cited that his great inspiration comes from president of Believers’Love Wworld (BLW) Campus Ministry; Pastor Chris Oyakhilome whose message has had a great impact upon his life.

Abel is a student Chief Executive Officer for Oasis Financial, a registered loan service organization and Oasis Housing Limited, a real estate organization.

The YALI RLC is run in partnership with University of South Africa, The MasterCard Foundation and Melimu.
