LUANAR staff with colleagues from Bosnia and Montenegro in Arendal
Three members of staff from LUANAR recently visited the Nowergian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in As, Norway where they spent a week, from 15th May to 21st May 2015 learning and sharing experiences with colleagues in the academic sector. The three namely Dr. John Kazembe, senior Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Management, Messrs Alinafe Mbendera and Trevor Namondwe, ICT Manager and Assistant Librarian respectively, spent their time in Norway alongside colleagues from Bosnia and Montenegro courtesy of Capacity Building for Managing Climate Change in Malawi (CABMACC)programme.
The visit which was coordinated by the Programmes Coordinating Office at LUANAR in collaboration with NMBU enabled LUANAR staff to discuss with colleagues some of the issues affecting national and global development with a focus on contributions by universities. LUANAR staff therefore, visited and held discussions with NMBU staff from departments of ICT, the writing centre, the Library and the International Environment and Development Studies. The staff were further taken on a 4 hour road trip from As to Arendal in the North of Norway, where they were briefed on the programmes of Grid-Arendal an organisation that works with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to provide evidence for decision and policy making by governments worldwide.
Whatismore, the visit involved participation in a seminar on e-learning and innovative teaching methods that was organised for NMBU staff to share skills and knowledge on how to improve the teaching and
learning experiences. Participants marveled at the efforts made by staff at NMBU to improve their teaching and learning standards and were enthused to adapt and implement some of the ideas at LUANAR.
CABMACC is a programme supported by the Norwegian Government with the goal of improving livelihoods and food security through innovative responses and enhanced capacity for adaptation to climate change in Malawi.
