Bunda Environmental Club is geared to celebrate this year’s World under a theme Sustainable Production and Consumption.
The function which will take place at LUANAR Bunda Campus on Saturday 6th June 2015 will start with cleaning of the campus from 6:00 to 8:00 oclock in the morning.
The Club’s Chairperson Yamikani Idrissah said apart from this activity, there will be other activities such as displays on recycling, re-use, conservation agriculture and wild life management.
“There will also be a launch of bins on campus which has been provided by the Capacity Building for Managing Climate Change in Malawi (CABMACC) Programme,†he said.
Idrissah further said as students under this club, with funding from CABMACC decided to organise the commemoration in order to show their patriotism and involvement in environmental issues.
He said apart from this, they wanted to raise awareness on sustainable consumption and production so that people can be living a sustainable life style.
“We also want to improve environmental consciousness among LUANAR people as well as surrounding communities,†said Idrissah.
According to him the participants will be from the LUANAR community, surrounding communities, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Clubs as well as secondary school students.
World Environmental Day is cerebrated on the 5th June each year and this year’s theme is Sustainable Lifestyles. Mainly the theme is asking everyone to evaluate their consumer habits: how they shop, eat and travel.
