Some South African companies through the South African High Commission have pledged to construct temporary classrooms at LUANAR.
This was announced during a recent 2015 Mandela International Day Fun walk where by LUANAR actively participated.
The Nelson Mandela international Day is commemorated annually on July 18 after the United Nation declared it.
According to the South African High Commissioner Mbuyane Mokone, they chose to commemorate Nelson Mandela Day by supporting LUANAR students saying unfavourable learning environment derails the excellent work of both students and lecturers.
She said the Fun walk also aimed at raising awareness of the conditions in which the students study.
“With the generous contribution of Old Mutual and Nedbank as principle sponsors, before end of September 2015, members of the Bunda community who have the requisite artisans skills will be temporary employed to erect these classroom structures,†said the High Commissioner.
She said in that way the contributions made by the South African business community respond to the needs of the students but also create work opportunities for the community members.
She said when the classrooms are free, Nedbank and Old Mutual will be using them to conduct financial literacy classes for the surrounding community members.
LUANAR Vice Chancellor Professor Geoarge Kanyama Phiri thanked the High Commission for engaging LUANAR in this cause meant to support the students saying this is commendable.
He further thanked all the companies that have pleadged support to this project saying this will reduce some of the challenges that are currently faced.
Apart from Old Mutual and Ned Bank which pledged MK 2 500 000 and MK 500 000 respectively, Standard Bank pledged MK 1 500 000 and Get Bucks MK 350 000. Some of the companies that provided support on the day are; Intercape and Peermont Hotels.
