RUFORUM has trained some staff and students from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources LUANAR, Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Mzuzu University (Mzuni) on how to increase their universities visibility online.
The two day workshop which took place at Golden Peacock hotel in Lilongwe from 13th -14th September 2015 focused on social media as a tool of marketing the universities.
Speaking during the training RUFORUM Communication Officer, Miss Joan Apio emphasized on the need of social media to market as well as to brand the universities and that if used effectively it can bring positive results.
As an assignment at the end of the training, the LUANAR team came up with the new communication strategic goal which will be used as a communication guide.
A LUANAR Agriculture Development Communication student Ecklina Makobidi who attended the training thanked RUFORUM for organizing such an important workshop saying it has sharpened her skills as far as the social media is concerned.
“ Iam ready to put in practice what I have learnt today and am willing to assist with LUANAR’s Public Relations Office in disseminating information so as to increase the visibility of our University.
Christian Matiti, a student and Bunda Students Union Director of Publications said the Social Media Training has helped him as it has boosted his confidence to actively participate in events and also to improve his live reporting skills.
He said the training will also assist his office as a Director of Publications and that will use the social media to ensure that his office is vibrant.
RUFORUM is a consortium of 46 African universities operating within 22 African countries including Malawi.
