    Alinafe Mbendera

    Mr Alinafe Mbendera is the ICT Manager of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) ICT Centre from October 2014. He is one of the leading Information Technology (IT) experts in Malawi. He obtained his B.Sc Degree (Distinction) majoring in Computer Science from the University of Malawi and acquired his M.Sc Degree (Distinction) in Applied Informatics from the University of Reading, United Kingdom. Alinafe Mbendera has several professional certifications on his resume and he continues to undertake further training in the dynamic field of Strategic IT Management, ICT Infrastructure Development, IT Audit and e-Learning.

    Alinafe Mbendera’s Masters Research project was titled 'A Conceptual Design of a Content Management System Learning Object for Personalised Knowledge Construction'. He explored the theories of knowledge construction and how they can be supported through e-learning. He explored the approaches of personalisation that can be adopted based on the psychological attributes of the learners. He developed a conceptual model of how learning content can be structured using learning objects for a content management system, to enable personalisation of the e-learning content. This model is supported by several rules, which are used to guide the selection, sequencing and presentation of the learning objects in accordance with the learner’s preferences, as it equally supports the pedagogy of instruction.

    Through out his career Alinafe has worked with multi national teams, simultaneously working with the support of advanced technologies in different countries. Alinafe has worked for several organisations in various capacities, which include: Director of the ICT/E-Learning Centre at Chancellor College University of Malawi, Lecturer in Computer Science at Chancellor College (where he taught Software Engineering, Operating Systems, Computer Networks and Artificial Intelligence), University of Reading ICT Services, Bytech UK Ltd and Malawi Net Ltd. Alinafe has consulted for many local and International Organisations, including the Government of Malawi.

    Alinafe continues to conduct research and consultancies. His research interests are in enterprise (IT) architecture, ICT for development, e-learning and policy & strategy development. Alinafe has worked with several local and international government departments to develop their polices and strategies which are aligned to Information Technology developments.
