Sera obtained her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in 2016, holds a Master of Business Administration Degree (2002), has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (2000), and a Diploma in Agriculture (1997). She has over 15 years of teaching and consulting experience. She is responsible for teaching courses, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in the areas of Finance, Microfinance, Marketing and Experiential Design Thinking. Sera has done extensive research, and facilitated trainings in the areas of finance, marketing, cooperative development, value chain and cross cutting issues affecting development
Her areas of expertise and research interest are in Social Capital, Small and Medium Enterprises Financing, systems analysis and marketing, and banking system efficiency. She has piloted use of design thinking approaches to imparting agribusiness development and management skills through experiential learning for the youth, and farmer organizations in collaboration with MSU https://gcfsi.isp.msu.edu/programs/innovation-scholars/ https://gcfsi.isp.msu.edu/programs/frugal-innovation-practicum/.She is currently facilitating to implement a similar programme at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST).
Among other projects, Sera is now spearheading establishment of an Agribusiness Incubation and innovation centre at LUANAR – Agribiz Hub https://www.luanar.ac.mw/agribiz/. Sera is the current Head of Department (2018 – Present). Before becoming Head of Department, she once served as Postgraduate Coordinator and Deputy Head of Department (2004 – 2011 & 2016 – 2018); and Teaching Fellow and Researcher (2012 – 2015) at Aberystwyth University, UK.
